Katy Biele

Katy Biele is a Chilean-born multidisciplinary artist based in Victoria BC, on the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Lekwungen) peoples.

Bridging the gap between paint and fiber, she creates a symphony of textures that dance and intertwine on a vibrant South American colour palette.

Katy’s works range from acrylic and watercolour paintings to embroidery to large-scale fibre art installations.

Her artwork won a People’s choice award at the ‘23/’24 Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) and has been featured in The Textile Museum of Canada and The National Museum of Singapore.

When she’s not making art, Katy is usually either travelling and/or teaching creative workshops around the world.

What skill level are the online courses?

The classes are suitable for anyone who has an interest in mixed-media art or hand embroidery. However, if you are completely new to painting and/or embroidery, start with the FREE WORKSHOPS to warm up.

How do I access my courses?

You can login from the menu at the top right corner of this website or directly from HERE. You will need your email address and password. If you don't know your password there is a link where you can reset it.

What is the format for the online courses?

On-demand courses are delivered in video format- professionally shot and edited with multiple camera angles. There is also additional written course content and photos.

Livestream workshops are delivered in real time via livestream video. Additional written course content, including supplies lists and photos are sent to you in advance to prepare for the workshop.

Do I need ALL of the materials for the course?

Each course comes with a list of materials that are commonly found in art supply stores or textile stores. You will definitely need certain things like paint brushes, canvas, and scissors (depending on the course). Many students find it helpful to watch a course first and then decide on the materials they want to use. I encourage you to explore and experiment with different materials. In many cases, you don't need the exact supplies that are listed in the course.

When do the courses start?

On-demand Courses start whenever you want. You can begin as soon as you purchase a course and you can work through it at your own pace because you own that course for life!

Livestream Workshops all have unique dates and times which you can view on the Livestream Workshop schedule.

What happens if I miss a Livestream Workshop?

All Livestream workshops are recorded and will be sent to you within 24 hours of the Livestream event, so if you miss it, you can still watch it and complete the workshop on your own time. If you have questions that weren't answered during the livestream, feel free to ask Katy via email.

What is the refund policy?

Once you are enrolled in a course, I am unable to offer a refund. I encourage you to fully read through the course details, watch the course trailer and contact me if you have any questions prior to signing up.

What support is available?

During the release of a new course or Livestream workshop, I am available in the Online Community and Facebook Group from Mon to Fri for the first two weeks. After that, I check in approx. 3-4 times per week.

You will also receive support from your fellow artists in the Online Community.
